Mayor Term Ends - Nixon to Step Down
By Astrid Spencer
After successfully holding office for three months (the first time in the history of Los Santos that this has been achieved), Mayor Allegra Nixon today announced that she intends to step down from the position and allow democracy to take hold once again. The Mayor is expected to be "tying up loose ends" this coming week before officially leaving by Friday. Here is her official statement:
"Citizens of Los Santos; it's gone quick, hasn't it? To think that this time three months ago I'd only just been inaugurated as the Mayor of Los Santos. We'd all just got over a tireless political battle and I was thoroughly exhausted... But also excited to begin.
We started with the changes to the Civilian Councillor system; we though it should be more democratic. We thought that it was time that you, the citizens, should be able to choose who represents them. After finally getting this approved by the current Councillors, this is now in effect. And we have welcomed Susan Martinez into our midst as that very new Councillor.
We didn't stop there. The Public Defenders Office was revised, revamped and revived. It has now been in operation for over one month and the feedback from citizens is astoundingly good. These lawyers have managed to protect the rights of so many people and I am proud to have been a part of seeing Justice enacted properly. Another great success.
But there is one thing that I promised, indeed, the only promise that I made... And that was to create an "active, stable and visible" government for the complete three months, no matter what happens... And I -- we -- have done that. I can look back on this term and leave with pride and dignity knowing that no promises were broken and everything was stuck to as it rightly should be in politics.
There is always room for improvement though and I hope that whoever you next get as Mayor will serve to do just that. I hope, in fact, that the next Mayor is much much better than I, because that is what this City deserves. Let us not settle for mediocrity, let's strive for success.
And so I'll bring this somewhat lengthy speech to a close. It's been a fun ride. Who knows what the future holds now, for you, for I, and for the City. I feel that now, however, I must dedicate myself to those parts of my life that I have previously neglected. I will spend time with my family and friends and take care of my mother, who has sadly been taken ill recently. Fear not though, I will be using this week to ensure that the Government is strong and prepared even in my absence. I bid you farewell as your Mayor, Los Santos, and wish you all the best."
(( It's genuinely been a pleasure and great fun roleplaying the Mayor and I hope that this tenure has been enough to convince you all that Government roleplay can be achieved when you put your mind to it... And it can be really rewarding! I'll be around in small doses to advise anyone wishing to run for the position next time around, so contact me if you intend to talk things over. I will be going mostly inactive and taking the time off to take charge of my University work and to just get to grips with life in general. After all, the real life always has to take priority. Fare-thee-well! :) ))
The Mayor is expected to sign off her resignation by the 8th of March. There is still no word from the State on when the next elections will be held. To finish off, here are some pictures of Mayor Nixon during her term:
