I honestly can't believe that it's the end of the month already and we are stepping into the month of August which is actually a big month for the Los Santos Fire Department in being 'National Immunization Awareness Month'. This will mean you will see the LSFD giving out several immunizations to anyone who may request one this month and promoting this throughout. As well as this, August will see the department hold it's yearly show day in which we hope to raise awareness of what the LSFD do and the area within. Further details for this will be released during the month.

Now however I do want to personally welcome our new Mayor to the office in Brad Hoover who has already been doing changes around the city and has shown a key interest into all areas of the public services that are available to the citizens. It has been a pleasure thus far working with him and I'm sure more changes are to come. As well as this as always I want to thank the employees of the Los Santos Fire Department and thank them for each and every minute they have spent on-duty and providing a service to the city that no one else can.

It is no lie that at the beginning of the month we took a huge drop in numbers but I am glad to be able to have seen the LSFD get passed this and now be back at high employment figures again. Our recruitment will be opening in around a weeks time and I hope to see many new potential EMT'S, Firefighters and Physicians coming into the department to offer their services to the city.

Ganton Gang Blaze

Written by Commissioner Jenny Crawford

On July 12th 2013, Engine 70, 14 and Ladder 6 we're quickly dispatched to Ganton Circle after receiving numerous 911 and department calls in regards to a fire that had erupted. The blaze started within one of the houses to the far East of the circle and continued to spread to the nearby houses and vehicles.

On arrival the area was full with local gang members seeming to indicate the start of the fire being possibly gang related. Although all roads to the circle we're blocked by the PD traffic unit it did not manage to control the crowd that was beginning to form around the area. Once on the scene Commissioner Crawford quickly assumed Incident Command while Firefighter Foster and Bureau Chief Everett began deploying the hoses. A front attack from the East side was determined to be the best cause of action with the firefighters determined to ensure the fire was kept away from spreading to near by vehicles after one had already caused a small explosion and the fire to spread further.

Image

Once the fire was controlled from the area Ladder 6 began ventilating the houses ready for an interior search team to enter. Once formed Interior One consisting of Crawford and Foster we're able to make a forceable entry to commence a search of the premises and control any fire from the inside. Luckily no victims we're found within the property but the structure was highly unstable which led to a personal line being used to prevent a firefighter possibly being lost within. This turned out to be a wise tactic after the fall collapsed under the Commissioner with Firefighter Foster having to use all his strength to pull Crawford back up to safety.

Image

The fire was successfully extinguished after 40 minutes of determined firefighting to keep the blaze under control. Substantial damage was done to the property in which the fire originated from with minor damage occurring to the surrounding houses. It was confirmed to be a result of a gang conflict in the area with PD detectives continuing to investigate further on the incident.

Psychology Up and Running

Written by Commissioner Jenny Crawford

This month saw myself take over the Psychologist Clinical Team that has been in-development for quite a few months now. Due to an major increase in-calls that required a Psychologist it became obvious that this was an area of the LSFD that needed to get up and running as soon as possible. I'm glad to be able to say this only took a couple of days and that this area of the LSFD is now up and running.

Throughout last week the team has been performing exceptionally well in offering their services to the city and surrounding areas. Most notably Senior Psychologist Femke Carnahan and Miyu Hanari who I would like to thank for their hard work up to now.

Image

A lot of people will be unaware what services the Psychologist team have to offer and believe it to be purely for just people who have serious mental disorders. I would like to stress that we aren't here just for this purpose but to offer help to anyone who may just simply think they need a bit of advice, someone to get things off their chest to and much more. All information is strictly confidential, even to law enforcement apart from extreme cases, so don't be scared to ever make an appointment to see a member of the team.

Sub-Department Changes

Written by Commissioner Jenny Crawford

As always each month their are changes made within the Sub-Department and Clinical Teams leaderships and this month is no different to the rest. The Psychologist change has already been mentioned in the previous notice with myself Commissioner Jenny Crawford being placed as Acting Head Psychologist of the newly developed Psychology team.

Other noteworthy changes is our head of sub-departments Bureau Chief Mark Everett passing the leadership of our highly trained drivers within the Rapid Intervention Division (RID) to Deputy RID Commander - Lieutenant Kate Callahan. She has been one of the most disciplined drivers since her arrival in the department regardless of being of such a young age and I am sure she will bring further success to the sub-department and ensure that calls are responded in a timely and efficient manner.

Throughout the month applications we're asked for from people wishing to take over the Pharmacy Clinical Team which sadly hasn't been up to full service in recent months. All applications have now been reviewed and I'm pleased to able to announce our Attending Physician Sarah Everett as the new Head Pharmacist who I am certain will bring new found success to the team and bring back the much needed Pharmacy to the city of Los Santos.

This concludes all changes this month to the leaderships of the departments but more changes are to come throughout the month as I focus on each part of the department to ensure that all services are available to the city.
